Single-stage design means the auger itself grips the pavement and throws in one motion, so this model is suited to cleared, hard surfaces rather than gravel or loose stone. Starting is by recoil pull rather than a battery or cord, and the chute is aimed by hand using the manual control rather than a powered lever.
Before you start it up
Check that your walkway or drive is paved or packed, since single-stage augers can fling loose surface material along with the snow.
