Details & Inspection Notes
At 617 pounds dry, the BF250DXDA is Honda's 25-inch-shaft cut of its 250 HP iST platform, a six-cylinder, 3583cc four-stroke with electric start. New.
How iST shift and throttle work here
Gear position and throttle angle are linked electronically rather than through a mechanical cable, so shifting and throttle response move together as one coordinated action instead of two separate inputs. EFI supplies the six-cylinder block through its whole operating range, and full throttle tops out between 5300 and 6300 rpm. Six cylinders and 3583cc of displacement are what this block relies on for output, rather than any single part carrying the load.
What to confirm before mounting it
Measure the transom for a 25-inch shaft; putting a different shaft length on this gearcase sets the antiventilation plate at the wrong depth, which hurts handling and cooling no matter how strong the powerhead runs underneath. Work the 617-pound dry weight into bracket, hoist, and rigging-tunnel planning well ahead of delivery, since this block is noticeably heavier than Honda's smaller four-strokes.
Standard equipment
A printed owner's manual comes with this engine, same as the rest of Honda's iST lineup. A freshwater flush fitting and onboard charging are also standard, right alongside power trim and tilt at the helm. A propeller is sold separately and should be matched to the boat and gearcase, and a five-year factory warranty backs the motor.
Q: Does a propeller ship with it? No, size one separately before launch day.
