Details & Inspection Notes

The BF250DXCDA pairs Honda's 250 HP, 3583cc six-cylinder iST four-stroke with a counter-rotating lower unit, which is what makes it useful on a twin-engine transom running opposite-turning propellers. Shaft length is 25 inches, and dry weight comes in lighter than Honda's longer-shaft iST engines at 617 pounds. New.

Where this fits

Run one standard-rotation iST 250 alongside one counter-rotation unit like this to cancel out prop torque pull on a twin installation, or mount it alone if the boat's rigging specifically calls for counter rotation on a single engine. Shift and throttle are electronically controlled rather than cable-driven, full throttle lands in the 5300-6300 rpm band, and induction is EFI throughout the rev range, giving consistent response whether idling at the dock or running wide open.

What to check before buying

Confirm the boat's transom is set up for a 25-inch shaft and that any matched engine on the opposite side runs standard rotation, not another counter-rotating unit, or the pair will fight each other instead of canceling torque. Outside of the counter-rotating gearcase, this engine carries the usual onboard charging, freshwater flush fitting, power trim and tilt, and printed owner's manual that the rest of the iST line ships with.

A five-year factory warranty backs the engine, and a propeller sized to the counter-rotating gearcase is sold separately.
