Details & Inspection Notes
The BF20D3SRT carries the identical 20-horsepower, two-cylinder, 350cc four-stroke block as Honda's tiller model but routes steering and throttle through a remote mechanical cable to a console instead of a handle at the motor. Honda's spec sheet for this configuration lists 128 lbs on a 15-inch shaft, with electric start backed up by a manual pull cord.
What remote steering requires
A cable-steered motor needs a helm, a steering cable run, and a throttle linkage already built into the boat, so this version suits small center-console and bowrider hulls rather than tillered skiffs. Once installed, output and running characteristics match the tiller version exactly, including the 5000-6000 rpm full-throttle band.
Checking fit before ordering
Confirm the boat already has, or can be fitted with, console steering hardware; a remote-steer unit will not simply bolt onto a mount cut for tiller control. Measure your transom against the 15-inch shaft separately, since that figure does not change with the steering type.
What ships with it
This unit includes a propeller, the onboard charging system, an external 3-gallon fuel tank with its line, and power tilt for raising the motor clear of the water, along with the owner's manual.
Is a kill-switch lanyard part of this package? Honda's equipment list for this remote-steer version does not call one out; check with us before ordering if your rigging needs one.
Will trolling speed starve the charging output? No, this engine's charging design is built to supply electronics at low rpm as well as high.
