Details & Inspection Notes
Honda's BF20D3SHT puts 20 horsepower through a two-cylinder, 350cc four-stroke block controlled entirely from a tiller handle, with no console or remote cable involved. The spec sheet for this exact unit lists 129 lbs on a 15-inch shaft, and starting is flexible: a manual pull cord backs up the electric button, so a flat battery will not leave you stuck at the ramp.
Where a tiller model fits
Working the throttle, shift, and steering by hand at the stern suits jon boats, small aluminum skiffs, and dinghies far better than larger console-rigged hulls, and it keeps rigging simple since there is no cable run to install. Honda tuned the onboard charging circuit on this line to keep electronics fed even while trolling at low rpm, not only at the top of the 5000-6000 rpm band this block runs through.
Sizing it correctly
A 15-inch shaft calls for a short transom; mount it on a taller boat and the propeller sits closer to the surface than intended, costing both bite and cooling flow. Leave room at the stern for the tiller arm to swing its full arc, and plan where the external tank will sit before you commit.
In the box
Standard equipment covers a fitted propeller, charging capability for small electronics, an external 3-gallon fuel tank with its line, power tilt to clear the motor at the dock, and a stop-switch lanyard, plus the owner's manual.
Can it run without the electric starter working? Yes, the manual pull cord is a full backup on this model.
Does it carry its own fuel tank internally? No, fuel comes from the included external 3-gallon tank rather than a built-in tank.
