Details & Inspection Notes

The BF20D3LRT takes this same 20 hp, 20-inch-shaft platform and fits remote mechanical steering in place of a tiller, for a boat rigged with a wheel and cable rather than hand control at the motor. It weighs 131 pounds, starts electrically with a manual cord as backup, and carries power tilt on top of the 350cc, carbureted, two-cylinder engine used across this family.

What to check before buying

This configuration assumes a wheel, cable, and control box are already part of the boat's rigging; there's no handle at the motor to steer by if that hardware isn't there. The 20-inch shaft still needs to suit your transom height, the same measurement that matters on the tiller-steered versions of this engine.

What ships with it

This one arrives with a propeller, a charging circuit, 3 gallons' worth of fuel in an outside tank with the line already plumbed in, and power tilt gear already fitted, plus the printed manual. No stop-switch lanyard is bundled in, in keeping with the remote-steering setup.

Keeping it running

Because steering routes through a cable instead of a tiller arm, it's worth checking that cable's tension now and then, on top of the usual habit of running fresh fuel through the carburetor each season so it doesn't gum up in storage.

Does it steer with a tiller handle? No, steering is remote mechanical. Does it have power tilt? Yes.
