Details & Inspection Notes

The Honda BF200DLRA is the shortest-shaft build in this group of 200 hp outboards, running a 20-inch shaft with remote mechanical steering, shorter than the shaft used on other 200 hp builds in this lineup. At 602 pounds it is also the lightest of these 200 hp motors, powered by a 3583cc, six-cylinder, EFI four-stroke with electric start, reaching full throttle somewhere between 5000 and 6000 rpm. A propeller is not included, so plan to source one sized to your boat and gearing.

Fit before ordering

A 20-inch shaft suits a standard-height transom; measure against your hull before buying, since the wrong length changes how deep the gear case sits once the boat is moving. Steering here runs through a cable back to a wheel at the helm, which means that hardware has to already exist on the boat; there's no handle at the motor itself to fall back on.

What it comes with

Honda equips this motor with its charging system for keeping a battery topped off, a freshwater flush port for rinsing the cooling passages after running in saltwater, and power trim and tilt adjusted from a switch, plus the printed owner's manual.

Care to plan for

A new outboard like this one benefits from a proper break-in period before you push it to full throttle regularly, and flushing the cooling passages with fresh water after any time in saltwater helps the freshwater flush system do its job for years rather than months.

Does it include a propeller? No. Is trim and tilt manual or powered? Powered, from a switch.
