Details & Inspection Notes
Honda's BF15D3SH portable is a 15 hp outboard on a short 15-inch tiller shaft with manual starting only, the lightest configuration in this portable series at 103 lbs.
Why it's the lightest here
Skipping electric start and power tilt is what keeps this version lighter than the other 15 hp portables Honda builds in this same lineup; starting is by pull cord at the tiller, with no battery or starter motor to carry around on the transom. The 15-inch shaft is also shorter than the shaft used on the other portable configurations, suiting a lower transom instead of a taller one.
Engine details
This two-cylinder engine displaces 350cc and runs on a carburetor rather than fuel injection, and Honda rates the full-throttle range at 4,500-5,500 rpm, the same window used across this portable family regardless of starting method. It is the simplest motor in the lineup to maintain, since there is no battery or electrical starting circuit to look after, and a pull-cord starter has fewer parts to go wrong far from a dealer.
Common questions
Does this have electric start? No, manual pull-start only, with no battery to maintain.
What comes with it? A propeller, a charging setup for the battery, an external tank holding 3 gallons with its fuel line, a lanyard-style stop switch, an owner's manual, and a 5-year Honda warranty.
