The BF150DXCDA is a 150 hp outboard that joins iST throttle control to a counter-rotating lower unit mounted on a 25-inch shaft, meant to pair with a standard-rotation engine in a twin-outboard install.

Counter-rotation and iST

Counter rotation turns the propeller opposite a standard motor so a matched twin-engine pair tracks straight under power instead of pulling to one side; verify your other engine's rotation before buying this one. iST manages shift and throttle electronically, so the helm needs wiring for that interface rather than a mechanical cable run to the cowling. Plan for that control module when you're budgeting the rigging, not just the engine itself.

Power and fit

A four-cylinder, 2354cc block takes fuel through EFI and starts on its electric starter, with a full-throttle band Honda lists between 5000 and 6000 rpm. Shaft length is 25 inches, and weight is 478 lbs. That weight runs a bit above the shorter-shaft iST model Honda builds at this same output, which is typical of the longer leg and the added counter-rotating hardware built into the lower unit itself.

Standard gear on this one includes the counter-rotation lower unit, switch-operated trim and tilt, a charging system, and a fresh-water cooling port, with the owner's manual included in the box; a propeller is not included, so match one to the rotation before heading out.
