Honda's BF140AXCRA is a new 140 hp four-stroke outboard with a counter-rotating lower unit, remote mechanical steering, and a 25-inch shaft, built for the second engine in a twin-outboard install that needs opposite-turning propellers.

Counter-rotation notes

Counter rotation means the propeller on this engine turns the opposite direction from a standard motor, which matters when it is mounted alongside a standard-rotation partner so the pair tracks straight rather than pulling to one side under power. Pairing it with another counter-rotating unit works against the point of buying it, so check what your other engine turns before placing an order. This model mounts on a 25-inch shaft, so measure your transom against that figure too.

Power and controls

Four cylinders combine for 2354cc of displacement here, fuel comes through EFI, and starting is electric. Honda's full-throttle window on this motor runs between 5000 and 6000 rpm. Steering is remote mechanical, running off a cable and wheel rather than a tiller handle, which fits a console-steered boat better than one driven by hand at the transom. Listed weight is 485 lbs.
