Details & Inspection Notes
This SP350/385 small-block is rated at 385 horsepower with a deep reserve of low-rpm torque, producing 405 lb-ft at 3,600 rpm thanks to high-flow, lightweight aluminum Fast Burn cylinder heads with 62cc chambers and 2.000-inch intake, 1.550-inch exhaust valves. Displacement is 350 cubic inches, built around a cast-iron block with four-bolt main caps.
What is under the heads
A forged, shot-peened steel crankshaft turns powdered-metal connecting rods and hypereutectic aluminum pistons, with a hydraulic roller camshaft delivering 0.474 inch of intake lift and 0.510 inch on the exhaust side across 208 and 221 degrees of duration. Compression comes in at a nominal 9.6:1, and bore and stroke work out to 4.000 inches by 3.480 inches.
Running it right
Chevrolet specifies premium pump fuel for this combination, with 36 degrees of total ignition timing set at 4,000 rpm and a maximum recommended engine speed of 5,800 rpm. The engine is externally balanced, so match your flexplate or flywheel accordingly when you mate it to your transmission, and plan on a standalone induction and ignition system since this is a base long block rather than a dressed package.
Q: How much more power does this make over a standard 350 HO? This SP350/385 is rated at 385 hp, built around the same high-flow aluminum head family used across Chevrolet's performance small-block lineup.
