Chevrolet Performance's ZZ502/502 Deluxe is a new 502 cubic inch big-block long block with high-flow aluminum oval-port cylinder heads and a hydraulic roller camshaft tuned for low-rpm torque, passing the 500 lb-ft mark by around 2,500 rpm. Unlike many bare long blocks in this lineup, it arrives with a carburetor already installed.
What makes this a deluxe package
Beyond the long block itself, this crate engine includes an HEI-type distributor, an 870 cfm carburetor, an aluminum short-style water pump, spark plugs and wires, a starter, and a 14-inch flexplate, which together trims the parts list you would otherwise need to assemble for a big-block build.
Bottom end and heads
Forged steel carries the load here: a forged steel crankshaft and shot-peened forged steel connecting rods work with forged aluminum pistons inside a cast-iron four-bolt-main block, externally balanced. Bore and stroke are 4.470 inches by 4.000 inches. The aluminum oval-port heads use 110cc chambers with 2.250-inch intake and 1.880-inch stainless steel exhaust valves, and intake duration runs 224 degrees against 234 degrees on the exhaust side. Compression comes in at 9.6:1.
Tuning notes
Recommended ignition timing is 32 degrees total at 4,000 rpm, and Chevrolet Performance rates maximum engine speed at 5800 rpm. Premium pump fuel is recommended, and the engine suits street and strip use rather than daily-driver economy.

Startup & Installation Checklist
