Chevrolet Performance built the LS376/525 by fitting an aggressive ASA hydraulic roller camshaft into the LS3's 376 cubic inch (6.2L) architecture, and the combination makes 525 horsepower. This new long block uses a cast aluminum block with six-bolt, cross-bolted main caps for added bottom-end strength.
What the ASA cam changes
Intake duration on the ASA cam measures 226 degrees against 236 degrees on the exhaust side, and Chevrolet Performance backs it with higher-rate valve springs to keep the valvetrain stable at higher engine speeds. Maximum recommended rpm is 6600, well above what a milder LS3 cam supports.
Internals and heads
A nodular iron crankshaft and powdered-metal connecting rods swing hypereutectic aluminum pistons, internally balanced. The aluminum L92-style cylinder heads use as-cast 68cc chambers with 2.165-inch intake valves and 1.590-inch exhaust valves, feeding a 10.7:1 compression ratio, and the investment-cast rocker arms run a 1.7:1 ratio. A 58X reluctor wheel is fitted for the ignition and fuel system to reference.
Running it right
What fuel does this engine need? Chevrolet Performance recommends premium pump gas given the 10.7:1 compression. Is this a complete, bolt-in engine? It is a long block built around LS3 architecture; plan your own intake, fuel, and ignition system to finish the installation, and keep engine speed under the 6600 rpm ceiling to protect the valvetrain and rocker system.
Startup & Installation Checklist
- Inspect all external gaskets, seals, spark plugs and timing components prior to installation.
- Refill engine oil, transmission gear oil and coolant to manufacturer-specified capacities before initial cranking.
- Prime the lubrication system and verify ECU wiring pinouts, sensors, and ground connections.
