Details & Inspection Notes

Black powder-coated valve covers embossed "Chevrolet" mark the HP94CBLK as the complete, carbureted dress of this 383 stroker; output lands at 415 horsepower and 460 foot-pounds. It is built to bolt in and run with little extra parts shopping.

What ships installed

The carburetor is a Quick Fuel 680 CFM unit with vacuum secondaries and an electric choke. Above it sits a Super Flow air cleaner, 14 inches across and 3 inches tall, with a washable element inside. A mechanical pump rated at 80 gallons per hour supplies it through a dual-inlet AN stainless line, while a 180 degree thermostat sits inside a chrome housing and a black HEI distributor fires the plugs. Even the valve covers carry their own PCV valve and push-in breather.

The stroker underneath

This is the same 383 combination ATK uses across its stroker line: a 4.040-inch bore, a 3.750-inch stroke, aluminum cylinder heads, hypereutectic pistons set to 9.7:1 compression, with a double roller chain handling timing, riding on a Scat rotating assembly. Run conventional 10W30 oil with a zinc additive for the first 3,000 miles, then 91 octane fuel after that.

Q: Is the fuel pump mechanical or electric? It is a mechanical pump rated at 80 gallons per hour, already plumbed to the carburetor.

With most of the accessories already in place, it pays to measure your chassis rails and headers against the air cleaner and valve cover height before committing to the swap.
