Honda's 2018 BF15D3SHT adds power tilt to the electric-start, short-shaft 15 hp line, making it the most equipped tiller-steered version Honda offers at this size.

Power tilt and starting

Power tilt is the step up from manual-tilt models in this same family, useful for raising the motor clear of the water at the push of a switch rather than hand-cranking it, and electric start carries over here alongside the stronger 12-amp alternator used on the equipped versions. Steering stays at the tiller, and the shaft is the short 15-inch length, built for a lower transom.

Engine and running range

This two-cylinder powerhead measures 350cc, its bore and stroke set at 59 and 64 millimeters, with a SOHC head and PGM-IG spark serving two valves on each cylinder. An external tank holding 3.2 gallons feeds the carburetor through a quick-connect fitting, burning 86-octane fuel. Honda's published full-throttle figure is 4,500-5,500 rpm, the final gearing is 2.08:1 across forward, neutral, and reverse, the block takes saltwater duty, and FC-W 10W-30 oil circulates through a wet-sump arrangement.

In the crate

In the box: the owner's manual, a 5-year warranty card, and an anti-theft fitting, together with the tiller handle, a spare four-blade aluminum propeller, a trim limiter, and oil. The external tank arrives with its own quick-connect line, tilt switch, mounting cables, and a Teleflex SL3 throttle control that mounts top or side.
