The 2017 BF15D3SHT is Honda's power-tilt, electric-start, short-shaft 15 hp outboard, carrying the same listed weight as the following year's version and the heaviest among the tiller-steered models in this family.
Specifications
Per Honda's figures, full throttle on this engine runs 4,500 to 5,500 rpm, and the 2.08:1 gearcase covers forward, neutral, and reverse. Count on water cooling plus a saltwater rating for the block, a wet-sump lubrication circuit on FC-W 10W-30 oil, a 12-amp charging alternator, and a factory-mounted propeller with four aluminum blades sized 9¼ by 10 inches.
Power tilt
Power tilt here means raising and lowering the motor at the touch of a switch rather than by hand, paired with electric starting on the shorter of Honda's two shaft options for this engine, built for a lower transom than the long-shaft version. The 350cc, two-cylinder powerhead runs SOHC valve gear with PGM-IG ignition, carbureted from an externally mounted tank that holds 3.2 gallons of fuel. Everything about the powerhead is shared with the rest of this short-shaft family; only the starting method and tilt hardware set the variants apart.
