Details & Inspection Notes

At 104 lbs dry, the T9.9XWHB is the lightest of the high-thrust 9.9 hp tiller motors here, and the only one in the group offering both electric start and a manual pull cord as a backup. It shares the 212cc, two-cylinder engine, 25-inch shaft and high-thrust gearing with its XPHB sibling, but its standard-equipment list leaves out power tilt, which points to a tilt pin you set by hand rather than a powered actuator.

That dual starting method is the clearest reason to pick this trim over an electric-only motor: if a battery dies or a starter fails mid-trip, you can still pull-start and get home. Fishing and work boats that spend long stretches away from a charger tend to favor this kind of backup.

Before you order

Confirm how you plan to adjust tilt, since power tilt is not part of this unit's listed equipment. The 25-inch shaft calls for a taller transom, and a 104-lb motor should be well within most hoists and lifts rated for this class of outboard.

Questions buyers ask

What's in the box? A printed manual travels with the unit, and a fuel line and safety lanyard are included alongside the dual-thrust prop and lower-unit hardware that come already fitted.

Is there a warranty? Yamaha backs this unit with a 3-year warranty.

How does it compare with the XPHB? Same engine and shaft, but this one adds manual start as a fallback and skips the power-tilt hardware that trim lists.
