Details & Inspection Notes
Yamaha built this F90LB 1.8-liter, 90 hp four-stroke to run with either a remote console or a tiller handle, on a 20-inch shaft, with electronic fuel injection and a three-phase 35-amp alternator. Dry weight is listed at 353 lbs.
What it adds over a bare-bones 90
A variable trolling-speed switch lets you dial the idle up or down in 50-rpm steps from 550 to 1000 rpm, useful for anyone trolling rather than running at speed. A freshwater flush fitting lets the motor be rinsed between trips without starting it, and mounting centers are set at 26 inches for matching a transom bracket.
Because this engine works with either control type, confirm which hardware your boat already carries before ordering; a 20-inch shaft also needs matching against your transom height rather than assumed from horsepower alone. Buyers moving up from a smaller portable often underestimate how much this extra weight and bulk changes handling at idle, so plan the transom and bracket accordingly.
Questions buyers ask
What fuel and compression does it need? 87-octane unleaded at a 10.0:1 compression ratio.
What's the warranty? Limited 3-year pleasure use, 3-year government use and 1-year commercial use, as Yamaha states it.
Can it run on a tiller handle? Yes, this engine is built to be set up either way.
