Details & Inspection Notes

A counter-rotating lower unit sets the Yamaha LF150XB apart from a standard 150 hp Yamaha four-stroke, built to pair with a second, standard-rotation outboard on a twin-engine boat. New, it carries a 25-inch shaft, remote mechanical throttle and shift, electric start, and four cylinders fed by EFI across 2670cc.

What counter-rotation means

On a twin-engine setup, two propellers spinning the same direction pull the boat slightly to one side under power; a counter-rotating motor like this one spins the opposite way from a standard engine so the two sides cancel out, giving straighter tracking and more predictable handling at low speed and in reverse. It is not meant to run alone in place of a standard-rotation engine, and the two engines in a pair are typically ordered together.

Before you order

Confirm which side of a twin installation this motor is meant for before ordering, since mounting counter-rotation on the wrong side defeats the purpose. Weigh the 25-inch shaft length against the boat's own transom measurement as a separate check.

What comes with it

  • Counter-rotation lower unit
  • Power trim and tilt
  • Owner's manual

Common questions

Can this run as a single engine? It is built for twin-engine installations alongside a standard-rotation motor. What is the rated output, and what is the weight? 150 hp, 489 lbs, with a 3-year warranty.
