Details & Inspection Notes

TREMEC built the TUET16363 Magnum-F to drop straight into third-generation GM F-body cars, namely the LS1 Camaro and Firebird sold between 1998 and 2002, as a stronger direct replacement for the factory T-56; it is also used in 1993-1997 LT1 F-body conversions and other third-generation F-body and LS-swap builds. It keeps the factory GM F-body shifter location for a clean swap while moving to a wide-ratio 2.97 first gear, rated for 700 lb-ft of torque; it keeps the Magnum platform's twin overdrives, fifth at 0.80 and sixth at 0.63.

Stronger than the factory T-56

A reinforced aluminum case with extra webbing, wider gear face widths, and combination double- and triple-cone synchronizers are built to outlast the original F-body T-56 under hard use, and the case includes a provision for a transmission cooler circuit. Second and third come in at 2.10 and 1.46, with 2.90 in reverse.

Shaft sizes and install details

Dry weight runs about 140 lbs: 26-spline input, 31-spline output, same as the rest of the Magnum family, with a slip-yoke output style, hydraulic clutch release, and an electronic speedometer output. It needs around 3.66 quarts of fluid, with TREMEC's HP-MTF as the top choice and a Dexron III ATF as a backup. A bellhousing, shifter, and slip yoke are not included, while the reverse lockout solenoid, internal shift mechanism, and front bearing retainer ship with the case.

Will this fit without modifying my factory shifter location? It is designed to use the factory GM F-body shifter position, which is part of why it is sold as a direct T-56 replacement.

Is a warranty included? Yes, TREMEC covers it for a year against factory defects in materials or assembly.
