Details & Inspection Notes
TREMEC's TDET18576 is the Ford-pattern TR-4050, a heavy-duty 5-speed built for Ford 2WD trucks and utility vehicles such as the F-100, F-150, F-250, and F-350, plus 2WD Bronco conversions, classic pickups, restomods, and street or performance truck builds. A deep 5.81 first gear is tuned for low-speed pulling power under heavy loads, while a 0.77 overdrive fifth lowers highway engine speed, and the case carries a torque rating of up to 600 lb-ft.
Why it suits towing and hauling
Carbon-lined synchronizers give smooth, precise engagement that older heavy-duty truck gearboxes often lack, backed by constant-mesh helical gears and tapered roller bearings built for continuous heavy-load use. The die-cast aluminum case keeps the unit lighter than a comparable cast-iron truck transmission despite weighing roughly 170 lbs, and gearing runs 2.94 in second and 1.61 in third toward 1.00 fourth, with 5.69 in reverse.
Specs and what ships
The input shaft uses 10 splines, fluid capacity is about 3.7 quarts, and TREMEC rates maximum engine speed at 5,500 rpm. A factory shifter assembly and installation documentation ship with the unit, along with a standard right-side, 6-bolt PTO provision for hydraulic pumps or auxiliary equipment; other driveline components are sold separately.
Can this handle heavy towing? Yes, the deep 5.81 first gear and tapered roller bearings are built for repeated heavy-load pulls, not just highway cruising.
What is the warranty? TREMEC extends three years of coverage on this transmission, protecting against manufacturing flaws when it is installed and maintained correctly.
