Details & Inspection Notes
TREMEC's TCET18086 is the wide-ratio, Ford-pattern TKX, built from new OEM-quality components for Mustangs, Falcons, Fairlanes, Torinos, Mavericks, Rancheros, Broncos, and F-100 trucks, along with street rods, pro-touring builds, and other custom Ford projects. A 3.27 first gear gives it stronger low-speed pull than a close-ratio TKX, while a 0.72 overdrive fifth still trims highway rpm.
Case and shift quality
The lightweight, ribbed aluminum case offers noticeably more transmission-tunnel clearance than older Ford manual gearboxes, easing installation in classic Ford bodies, and TREMEC backs it with a 600 lb-ft torque rating, keeping gear changes quiet and precise to 7,500 rpm while the driveline tops out at 8,000 rpm. 1.98 covers second, 1.34 covers third, and reverse comes in at 3.00.
What ships with it
Dry weight runs about 99 lbs, output splines total 31, and the transmission takes about 2.7 quarts of fluid, with three shifter mounting locations to choose from. A switch for the reverse lights, a connector for the backup-light wiring, an inspection cover, and a stub shifter mounted at the rear all ship with the case, though a flywheel, clutch, and bellhousing are sold separately.
Does this include a shifter? Yes, a rear-mount stub shifter ships with the case, along with the reverse-light switch and backup-light connector.
What is the warranty? TREMEC extends one year of coverage against defects that trace back to the factory, not to installation error.
