Details & Inspection Notes
TREMEC built the TCET18084 as a close-ratio, Ford-pattern TKX aimed at 1965-1973 Mustangs, Falcons, Fairlanes, Torinos, Comets, Cougars, Rancheros, and Mavericks, pitched as the next step beyond the older TKO series with a slimmer case for easier installation. A 2.87 first gear and 0.81 overdrive fifth suit performance street driving, autocross, and road racing better than a wide-ratio setup, while still carrying a 600 lb-ft torque ceiling.
What is different about this close-ratio build
Wide alloy steel gears and caged needle bearings back up smooth gear changes clear to 7,500 rpm, and the driveline itself tops out at 8,000 rpm, using hybrid bronze and carbon multi-cone synchronizers inside a ribbed, three-piece aluminum case. Second and third land at 1.89 and 1.28, with 2.56 in reverse.
What is, and is not, in the box
Unlike some other TKX versions, this one ships without a shifter; you get the front bearing retainer, internal shift components, and shift rail assembly instead, along with installation documentation. Splines number 26 on the input and the output shaft carries 31, at roughly 99 lbs, and it draws around 2.7 quarts of TREMEC's high-performance fluid to fill; a bellhousing and slip yoke are also sold separately.
Does a shifter come with this unit? No, a shifter is not included here, unlike some other TKX versions; you will need to source one separately.
What is the warranty? TREMEC stands behind it for a year, covering manufacturing flaws when installed correctly, with service handled directly through TREMEC.
