Details & Inspection Notes

The TREMEC TCET17765 is a Ford-pattern TKX with wide-ratio gearing: a 2.87 first gear for strong acceleration and a 0.68 overdrive fifth that keeps highway rpm low, built for small-block Ford 289, 302, and 351W-powered Mustangs, Falcons, Fairlanes, Torinos, Mavericks, Rancheros, Cougars, Comets, and F-100 trucks.

Fit and shift feel

Its end-loaded aluminum case installs in many classic Ford tunnels with little or no cutting, and multi-cone synchronizers keep every shift smooth clear through 7,500 rpm, while the 600 lb-ft torque rating and 8,000-rpm driveline ceiling cover most street builds; reverse lands at 2.56.

Specs to plan around

Dry weight comes in around 99 lbs, the input shaft spins on 26 splines, and the output side turns 31, with a mechanical clutch release and about 2.7 quarts of TREMEC high-performance manual transmission fluid needed. A rear-mounted stub shifter, reverse light switch, and cruise control safety switch ship with the unit, though a bellhousing, clutch, and slip yoke do not.

Does it come with a shifter? Yes, a rear-mounted stub shifter is included, along with the reverse light and cruise control safety switches.

How long does the warranty run? One year of TREMEC coverage protects this transmission against flaws in its materials or its build, with claims handled through TREMEC's own service network rather than through a third party.
