Details & Inspection Notes
The TREMEC TCET17722 is the GM-pattern, close-ratio version of the TKX 5-speed, built with a GM-style 4-speed bolt pattern, a 2.87 first gear, and a 0.81 overdrive fifth for GM-based restomods and street builds. Torque capacity tops out at 600 lb-ft, with shifts rated to 7,500 rpm and the engine itself able to spin as high as 8,000 rpm.
Case and shifting
The three-piece aluminum case is ribbed for rigidity, with gaskets at every flange, and stays slim enough to clear tight transmission tunnels; gear changes rely on multi-cone synchronizers with hybrid rings across second and third gear, 1.89 and 1.28, landing on 2.56 in reverse.
Shifter position and clutch setup
Moving the shifter to the forward location is possible, but only by adding a separate forward-mount shifter kit, which this package does not include; the standard rear position is reversible on its own. A 26-spline input mates to a 31-spline output, and the clutch release bearing retainer is mechanical from the factory, with aftermarket kits available later if hydraulic release is wanted. A switch for the reverse lights ships here, and so does one for neutral safety, alongside mechanical and electronic speedometer provisions. Fluid capacity is 2.7 quarts.
Can I mount the shifter further forward? Only with a separate forward-mount shifter kit, which is not part of this package.
Does the input shaft use 26 splines? Yes, with a 31-spline output shaft on the other end.
