Details & Inspection Notes
Unlike the 4WD-oriented automatics nearby in this lineup, this remanufactured four-speed is built for street-driven, two-wheel-drive Chevy applications and will not fit 4WD setups at all. It runs a forward shift pattern rather than the standard pattern used elsewhere in the range, with a steel input shaft on 30 splines and a 3.06 first-gear ratio.
Two details that affect installation
A matching old transmission's speedometer gear and housing should carry over here if you're replacing the identical model, since this unit doesn't ship with new ones. If your vehicle uses a torque arm, you'll need to change the tailshaft housing to accommodate it; the throttle valve cable ships included, but the torque-arm-specific housing does not. Polish and aluminum describe the pan; the case itself is aluminum too, in a gray finish, with output riding a slip-on yoke.
What the rebuild covers
Bushings, seals, thrust washers, high-energy bands, and new clutches go into the rebuild, backed by a hardened sunshell and a rebuilt front pump, plus a street performance valve body for firmer shifts. A torque converter, flexplate, controller, and cooler are each missing from the box, and so is the fluid to fill it. It is lockup compatible and dyno tested before shipping, sold individually, with the torque-arm tailshaft housing being the one detail most worth double-checking ahead of time.
Will this work in a 4x4? No, it's built for two-wheel-drive applications only. Do I need anything extra for a torque-arm car? Yes, a different tailshaft housing to pair with the included throttle valve cable.
