Details & Inspection Notes
Sold under Mercury's Special Stock designation, this new 8HP 8MH is a twin-cylinder four-stroke at 84 lbs, running the short shaft, a tiller handle, and a pull-cord starter.
What manual starting means here
Without an alternator or battery to wire in, the setup stays simple, which suits a backup kicker motor or a small boat running without onboard electrics. This engine generation also starts more readily from cold and idles more evenly once warm. Full throttle spans 5000 to 6000 rpm, fed by SOHC induction.
Fit and included items
This short shaft fits small sailboats, utility hulls, jon boats, soft-hull inflatables, and aluminum tiller boats that sit lower at the transom than a long-shaft hull would need. A propeller is not part of this particular listing, so plan to source one separately. The remote 3.2-gallon fuel tank is included, along with a carry handle built into the cowl, a lanyard-style kill switch, a tool kit, and Mercury's owner's manual, plus the standard factory warranty. Grease the tilt pivot points once a season to keep steering light.
Q: Is a propeller included with this unit? No, a propeller is not part of this package.
Q: What's the shaft length on this model? Short — the right pick for a boat that sits lower at the stern.
