Details & Inspection Notes
Forged pistons, crankshaft, and rods sit inside this Roush 427 R (BD427RPC), a 427 cubic-inch small-block Ford crate engine with aluminum cylinder heads and a hydraulic roller camshaft, built at a larger displacement than some other engines in Roush's range and ready to bolt in once carburetion or EFI, ignition, and exhaust are in place.
Included vs. not
The oil pan, timing cover, valve covers, harmonic balancer, and spark plugs are installed at the factory. Fuel delivery and ignition are left to the installer entirely, so no carburetor, throttle body, or distributor ships with it, and the same goes for the exhaust manifolds, air cleaner, computer, and wiring harness, plus the flexplate or flywheel that connects it to your transmission.
Fitment notes
This displacement is a popular upgrade path for classic Mustang and muscle car restorations, but confirm your mounts, headers, and accessory drive clear the engine before ordering, since swaps vary by chassis. Premium fuel at 91 octane or higher is specified, and the engine is not emissions-certified, so treat it as an off-road or competition unit rather than a street-legal engine where emissions rules apply.
Common questions
Can I run a carburetor on this engine? Yes, it is built to run either a carburetor or an aftermarket EFI setup; neither ships installed.
Does it include a transmission? No transmission or ECU is included; both are separate purchases.
What rotating assembly does it use? Forged pistons, crankshaft, and rods are used throughout, matched to aluminum cylinder heads.
