Details & Inspection Notes
Roush's BD427RC packs 427 cubic inches (7.0L) of Windsor-based small-block under a carburetor, running a 9.8:1 compression ratio and a hydraulic roller camshaft, new from the factory for classic street and track use.
What's in the box
Spark plug wires, spark plugs, and the aluminum cylinder heads come with the carburetor already installed, and a flywheel ships for manual-transmission applications; rounding out the assembly are the timing cover, oil pan, valve covers, harmonic balancer, and water pump. A distributor and throttle body are not included, nor is a flexplate or air cleaner, so an ignition system still needs to be added.
Fitment notes
This engine is built for classic Ford Mustangs, Shelby Cobra replicas, and pro-touring builds using a standard Windsor transmission and mount setup. Roush recommends premium fuel for the 9.8:1 compression, and because the ignition distributor and exhaust components aren't part of the package, plan to add a compatible setup before start-up, along with checking that your chosen ignition box matches a carbureted small-block.
Common questions
Does it need a distributor? Yes, a distributor is not included and must be sourced separately to complete the ignition system.
Can I run this with a manual transmission? Yes, the included flywheel is set up for a manual-transmission build.
What kind of car suits this engine? It's aimed at owners of classic Ford muscle cars who want carbureted big-inch power without switching to electronic fuel injection.
