Details & Inspection Notes

The Mercury Propane Outboard 5HP 5MH LPG is a one-cylinder, four-stroke outboard built to run on propane instead of gasoline, so there is no carburetor to foul and no stale fuel to drain between trips.

What it is for

Running on the same propane used for a grill means skipping gasoline hauling, and with no carburetor, Mercury notes these outboards tend to need less fuel-related maintenance. It delivers a true 5 hp, aimed at aluminum tiller, inflatable, and utility boats.

Fit and starting

This 5 hp runs on a tiller handle with manual pull starting and a 15 inch short shaft, so confirm your transom fits before ordering and that pull-starting suits you. Full throttle falls between 4500 and 5500 rpm, from a 7.5 cubic inch (123cc) single cylinder.

What comes with it

Included: a tool kit, owner's manual, propane adapter fitting, internal fuel tank, and fuel line assembly, plus a three-blade aluminum propeller sized 7.7 inches by an 8.0 pitch and an integrated carry handle, finished in Phantom Black under Mercury Marine's 3-year warranty.

Common questions

What fuel does it run on? Propane, through a quick-threading hose and auto shutoff, rather than gasoline.

Electric or manual start? Manual pull-start with a tiller handle.

Does the fuel hose make tank swaps easy? Yes, the fuel line threads on quickly, which Mercury designed for fast reconnecting when switching tanks.
