Details & Inspection Notes

The Mercury JET 25ELHGA FourStroke Outboard trades a standard gearcase for a jet pump, so it can run through shallow, rocky, or debris-strewn water where a normal propeller outboard would ground out or foul.

What it is for

Because the pump housing sits level with the boat's bottom rather than hanging a gearcase and prop below the hull, Mercury also fits this same jet layout to rescue boats that need a protected drive in tight, shallow conditions. A stainless impeller is built to shrug off sand, gravel, and shells pulled through the pump.

Shaft, steering, and power

This three-cylinder jet is rated 25 hp, runs EFI fuel delivery, and pairs a 15 inch short shaft with a tiller handle and electric start. Jet drives trade some efficiency for shallow-water ability, so expect different handling than a propeller-driven 25 hp outboard of the same size.

What comes with it

Mercury rounds out the package with the owner's manual, a tool kit, and mounting hardware, plus a 6.6 gallon fuel tank and a quick-connect fuel line; a propeller is not included, since jet units run on an impeller instead. Full throttle falls between 5000 and 5500 rpm, with Mercury Marine's 3-year warranty applying throughout.

Common questions

Does it use a propeller? No, a jet pump and impeller take the place of a propeller and gearcase.

What kind of water is it built for? Shallow water carrying sand, rock, or debris that would damage a standard gearcase.
