Details & Inspection Notes
The Mercury 9.9HP 9.9ELHPT ProKicker is built as an auxiliary motor: something to troll at a controlled speed, back up a bigger main engine, or give that main engine a rest, rather than serve as a boat's primary power.
What a ProKicker is built to do
Mercury's ProKicker line is designed for steady throttle response in rough or changing conditions, with extra torque aimed at better low-speed control than a standard portable of the same horsepower. Starting is built to be quick and dependable, and the motor is kept light so it does not overload a transom bracket mounted next to a larger engine.
Controls on this configuration
The ELHPT tag points to an electric-start, power-tilt version with a tiller handle; Mercury's ProKicker series is offered in both remote and tiller setups. On tiller versions, a strap built into the mount holds the motor square once it has been tilted clear of the water, so it does not swing side to side while trailering. Confirm the exact shaft length against the spec table on this page before ordering.
