Details & Inspection Notes
This used 9.9EXLH Command Thrust stretches the shaft out to a longer length for taller transoms while keeping the same tiller steering and electric start as the shorter-shaft EL and ELH versions sold elsewhere in this engine family.
Extra-long shaft, same base engine
The longer shaft exists to keep the propeller at the right depth on boats with a taller-than-standard transom, common on sailboats used for auxiliary power; everything else about the drivetrain matches the shorter-shaft tiller models in the lineup of 9.9 FourStrokes.
Mechanically speaking
Gearing holds at 2.08:1, trim works by hand through a ratcheting lever rather than a powered motor, and the fuel tank is a standard, remote-mounted size. No other build in this engine family comes in lighter than this one, at 84 lb dry.
Used-motor notes
Since this is sold used, confirm hours and recent service rather than relying on the spec sheet alone, particularly around the water pump and lower unit seals, which wear with age regardless of how carefully a motor was run. It runs happily on 87 octane with a bit of ethanol blended in, up to 10 percent, and takes Mercury FourStroke 10W-30 for oil changes.
Common questions
Is tilt manual or power? Manual, ratcheting.
Is steering tiller or remote? Tiller, controlled at the motor.
What shaft length does this carry? The extra-long option for taller transoms.
