Details & Inspection Notes

Stretch the shaft to 25 inches and keep everything else about the ELPT Command Thrust layout, and this new 60HP FourStroke is built for boats with a taller transom instead of the shorter-shaft hull most of this family fits.

Engine numbers

Mercury lists full throttle at 5500 to 6000 rpm for this engine. Displacement is 60.8, and electronic fuel injection takes the place of a carburetor. Dry weight is 247 lbs, unchanged from the shorter-shaft versions of this motor. Trim and tilt both run electrically from the console.

Fit before you order

This x-long shaft is meant for boats with an unusually tall transom; mounting it on a shorter, standard-length transom buries the cavitation plate too deep and hurts performance rather than helping it. This unit ships without a propeller, and Command Thrust's larger gearcase calls for a propeller matched to that housing rather than a generic 60HP prop. Mercury provides a 3-year warranty on this unit, and it ships with mounting hardware, a compact tool kit, a quick-connect fuel line fitting, and the owner's manual.

Why choose the x-long shaft over a shorter one? Only because your transom requires it; a longer shaft than your boat needs will run the motor too deep and hurt performance rather than help it.

Does the longer shaft change the Command Thrust gearcase itself? No, it is the same gearcase; only the shaft length differs from the standard version. Mercury outboards
