Details & Inspection Notes

This used Mercury 60ELPT SeaPro outboard runs remote steering rather than a tiller. Mercury's SeaPro commercial tuning shifts the torque curve lower in the rpm range compared with a recreational FourStroke, aimed at getting a work boat onto plane without working the engine as hard. The Command Thrust gearcase is standard here.

Engine specs

This SeaPro's inline-4, 8-valve engine measures 60.8/995 (CID/CC) in displacement. Full throttle spans 4500 to 5500 rpm. Dry weight comes to 260 lbs, and the gearcase ratio works out to 2.33:1. Max trim is 22 degrees and max tilt 70 degrees, powered by an 18-amp, 226-watt alternator.

Duty-rated running

Electric turn-key start, mechanical throttle and shift controls sold separately, and electronic fuel injection make up the control side. Mercury calls for 87-octane fuel at minimum or 90 RON with up to 10 percent ethanol, plus its own FCW 25W-40 oil. SeaPro units in commercial service accumulate hours differently than recreational motors; ask for this one's history before ordering.

Is SeaPro worth it over a standard 60hp FourStroke for recreational use? SeaPro trades some top-end performance for durability and low-rpm torque, a trade-off aimed mainly at commercial duty cycles.

Why does SeaPro's trim and tilt range run wider than a recreational motor's? It gives a commercial operator more room to set running angle under a variety of loads. Mercury outboards
