Details & Inspection Notes
This new Mercury 5HP 5MLH outboard runs on propane instead of gasoline, using the same type of LPG tank you would use for a grill rather than a dedicated marine fuel tank. With no carburetor to gum up, Mercury markets it as needing less fuel-system maintenance than a comparable gasoline model, while still delivering a true 5 hp from a 123cc (7.5 ci) single-cylinder engine.
Specs on this 5MLH
This is the tiller-handle, manual-start version, with a 20-inch long shaft and a weight of 58 lbs. Mercury rates full throttle between 4500 and 5500 rpm. Standard equipment includes a 7.7-inch diameter, 8.0-inch pitch three-blade aluminum propeller in Phantom Black, a built-in carry handle, and a lanyard-style safety stop switch.
Setup and fit
The internal fuel tank holds 0.3 gallons, enough to run the motor on its own built-in supply, with a fuel line assembly and propane adapter fitting included for connecting a larger external tank. Confirm your transom matches the 20-inch long shaft before ordering, since Mercury also sells this engine with other shaft lengths. Mercury Marine backs this motor with a 3-year warranty, and a tool kit and owner's manual ship alongside the aluminum tiller and inflatable-boat setup described above.
Can I run this on a standard propane tank? Yes, the included propane adapter fitting is built to connect to a tank of that kind.
Does running on propane change maintenance? Mercury markets this engine as needing less fuel-system upkeep than a carbureted gasoline motor, since there is no carburetor to clean. Mercury outboards
