Details & Inspection Notes
This new Mercury 50HP ELHPT FourStroke outboard steers from a tiller handle rather than a remote console, and the advanced tiller referenced in its name houses the throttle and shift controls right at the back of the boat. It carries electric start, a 20-inch long shaft, and the Command Thrust gearcase, which swings a larger-diameter propeller to push more load at low rpm than a standard gearcase does. Pair it with a pontoon, loaded jon boat, or small aluminum hull that needs bite more than top speed.
Rigging and performance
Mercury lists the full throttle range for this motor at 5000 to 6000 rpm and a displacement figure of 60.8, with electronic fuel injection handling fuel delivery. Dry weight comes in at 247 lbs. Power trim and tilt are both electric here, so the operator raises or lowers running angle and clears the motor from the water without reaching for a manual lever.
Fit and what ships
Measure your transom before ordering: a 20-inch long shaft needs a transom built for that length, not the shorter or longer alternatives Mercury also builds this engine in. No propeller ships with this unit, which matters more than usual on a Command Thrust gearcase, since the right prop pitch is what lets the larger gearcase do its job. Mercury's coverage on this model is a 3-year warranty, and the carton includes the owner's manual, mounting hardware, a tool kit, and the quick-connect fuel line fitting.
Can I steer this from a console instead? Not as sold; this is the tiller-handle version, with controls built into the tiller arm.
Why no propeller in the box? Mercury ships this gearcase without one so the buyer can choose pitch and diameter to match the boat. Mercury outboards
