Details & Inspection Notes
The used Mercury 50ELHPT FourStroke Outboard Motor steps up to 50 horsepower from the smaller tiller-or-remote motors in Mercury's lineup, keeping electric turn-key start and power trim and tilt, on a 20-inch shaft.
What the extra horsepower changes
This inline engine carries 2.56 inches of bore and 2.95 inches of stroke, with electronic fuel injection and ECM 70 ignition feeding it and a wet sump lubricating it; Mercury rates full throttle between 5000 and 6000 rpm, a notch higher than the smaller tiller motors it shares a gearcase family with. A 1.83:1 gearcase ratio is geared to put the extra power to use, and dry weight comes in at 247 pounds, the lightest Mercury builds at this power level. A Performance-Tuned Scroll Intake Manifold and an 18-amp, 226-watt alternator round out the equipment list, while SmartCraft's Engine Guardian system watches over engine health during operation.
Steering, fuel, and warranty
The new advanced tiller doubles as a remote-steering option here, and mechanical throttle and shift are sold separately rather than bundled in, which lets a buyer match controls to an existing console or helm setup. An optional remote fuel tank extends range beyond the built-in setup, and fuel needs to be 87 octane or better, ethanol capped at 10 percent, with Mercury FourStroke 25W-40 oil used at service time. This motor carries Mercury's factory-backed coverage of a three-year standard warranty plus a two-year Product Protection Gold plan layered on top, for five years of coverage in total.
