Details & Inspection Notes
Unlike the short 4MH, the used Mercury 4MLH FourStroke Outboard Motor rides on a 20-inch shaft, still a single-cylinder 4 horsepower carbureted motor with manual pull-start, and this one ships with a propeller already in the box.
Engine and handling
Mercury rates the cylinder at 7.5 cubic inches, or 123 cc, bored to 2.32 inches with a 1.77-inch stroke, running CDI ignition with electronic spark advance and a top end between 4500 and 5500 rpm. The 2.15:1 gearcase and tiller steering are typical for a motor this size, manual trim offers 6 positions to set by hand, and the shallow water trim range reaches 16 degrees for working in close around structure, a dock, or a launch ramp.
Fuel capacity and condition
Run it on 87 octane fuel with up to 10 percent ethanol. The internal tank holds 0.3 US gallons, roughly 1.1 liters, and an optional 3.2-gallon tank, about 12 liters, stretches range for a longer day on the water away from a dock. A low-oil-pressure and over-rev warning system is built in, and this used motor comes finished in Phantom Black. Mercury's coverage carries forward with it too: three years of standard warranty, stacked with a further two years under the Product Protection Gold plan, for five years total from the original purchase.
