Details & Inspection Notes
The Mercury 300CXXL SeaPro Commercial takes the same commercial-duty 300 horsepower V8 used in the CXL SeaPro and puts it on a longer, 30 inch shaft for deeper transoms, with counter rotation available.
Commercial-duty details
This SeaPro is restricted to commercial applications, and its coverage reflects that: 2 years with no hour cap, rather than the calendar-based limit recreational engines carry, which matters for boats that log far more hours per year than recreational craft. The V8 is calibrated to produce torque at lower rpm, aiming to cut stress on the engine under constant heavy loads. As with other SeaPro models, cosmetic trim takes a back seat to durability here, since this engine is built and finished for working boats rather than show.
Specifications
Full throttle tops out at 4800 to 5600 rpm on the same 1.75:1 gearcase, with a 3.6 inch bore and 3.4 inch stroke. Idle charge comes from an 85 amp (1071 watt) alternator, and the engine weighs 527 lbs dry. Trim adjustment runs 20 degrees in total (-6 to 14 at the extremes), and tilt runs 73 degrees (-6 to 67). Steering here is electro-hydraulic, and digital throttle and shift can be added, sold separately.
Rigging flexibility
Rigging is flexible here too, accepting cable or digital controls, hydraulic or power steering, or Mercury's Big Tiller, to match whatever a fleet already runs. Counter rotation support suits the starboard side of a twin-engine commercial setup.
