Details & Inspection Notes

The Mercury 300CXL SeaPro Commercial is a new 300 horsepower V8 built for commercial duty, on a 25 inch shaft with counter rotation available for twin-engine installs.

Built for commercial use

Mercury rates this SeaPro for commercial applications only; its warranty runs 2 years with no cap on operating hours, unlike the calendar-based limits recreational motors carry. The 4.6 liter powerhead is tuned to deliver torque at lower rpm than a recreational engine of the same displacement, which Mercury says puts less stress on the engine under sustained heavy loads. Because this engine is sold for commercial use, expect the kind of plain, functional finish suited to work boats rather than cosmetic extras aimed at recreational buyers.

Specifications

Full throttle runs 4800 to 5600 rpm on a 1.75:1 gearcase, bore and stroke at 3.6 and 3.4 inches. An 85 amp (1071 watt) alternator with idle charge keeps the battery topped up, and dry weight comes in at 527 lbs. Trim range tops out at 20 degrees, from -6 to 14, while tilt extends to 73 degrees, from -6 to 67. Steering is electro-hydraulic, and the engine accepts digital throttle and shift, sold separately.

Maintenance and rigging

Mercury built this engine to be easy and intuitive to service in the field, and it can be rigged with cable-operated or digital controls, hydraulic or power-assisted steering, and Mercury's Big Tiller option, whichever a boat already carries. Order it with counter rotation if it will run as the second engine in a twin-outboard setup.
