Details & Inspection Notes
The Mercury 25HP EH FourStroke is a new outboard on a 15 inch short shaft, tiller steered, with electric start, aimed at boats with a lower transom than the long-shaft versions in Mercury's 25 horsepower range.
Who it suits
Short-shaft, tiller-steered 25s like this one commonly go on aluminum fishing boats, jon boats, and small utility hulls where the operator sits close to the motor. Electric start removes the pull cord from the routine, and since power trim is not listed on this spec sheet, plan on adjusting running angle by hand.
Mounting and fuel
Measure straight down from the top of your transom to the keel before ordering; a 15 inch shaft suits a lower transom, and getting the length wrong lets the anti-cavitation plate sit too high or too low, costing both speed and cooling flow. Keep the included quick-connect line and 6.6 gallon tank filled with fresh fuel, since four-stroke outboards are more sensitive to stale gasoline than older two-strokes were. A tiller handle keeps throttle, shift, and steering within reach of one hand, which many owners of small aluminum boats prefer to running cables out to a console.
Specifications
The three-cylinder four-stroke displaces 32.1 cubic inches and peaks at 5000-6000 rpm through electronic fuel injection, weighing 157 lbs dry. Mercury backs the EH with its standard 3-year warranty. In the box: an owner's manual, a tool kit, mounting hardware, the 6.6 gallon tank, and its quick-connect fuel line; the propeller is sold separately.
Does the EH have power trim? No, plan on manual adjustment. What shaft length is this? 15 inches, the short-shaft option here.
