Details & Inspection Notes
The Mercury 25ELPT FourStroke is a used outboard that pairs the same three-cylinder, 32.1 cubic inch four-stroke with remote steering in place of a tiller, so throttle and shift bolt to a console or side-mount bracket supplied separately.
What to check before buying
Because remote controls are not part of this engine, measure your existing cable runs and binnacle mount before ordering, and confirm the 20 inch shaft fits your transom. Power trim lets running angle change at the push of a switch, which helps when load or water depth shifts often, and shallow water trim range extends to 16 degrees for working close to shore.
Powerhead and running gear
This block displaces 526cc and spins up to 5000 to 6000 rpm at full throttle, fed by electronic fuel injection, with CDI ignition, electronic spark advance, and a bore and stroke of 2.40 by 2.36 inches. The gearcase shifts forward, neutral, and reverse at a 1.92:1 ratio, cooling is water-cooled with a thermostat, and a 15 amp alternator keeps the battery topped up. A 6.6 gallon tank is standard, dry weight works out to 157 lbs, and Mercury calls for FourStroke 10W-30 oil with 90 RON as the minimum fuel grade. Finish is Phantom Black, and no propeller ships with the engine.
Condition and warranty
This unit is used, so inspect it with that history in mind rather than expecting showroom cosmetics. Mercury backs it for 5 years altogether, folding a 3-year factory warranty together with a second, 2-year stretch of Product Protection Gold coverage.
