Details & Inspection Notes
Compared with a tiller-steered 25-horsepower Mercury, this used 25EL moves steering to a remote console, with controls sold separately, and lengthens the shaft to 20 inches, while switching from manual to power trim.
Remote steering, power trim
This console-steered version of Mercury's 25-horsepower inline-3 has its control cables sold separately from the motor rather than bundled, with power trim replacing a manual trim lever. The 20-inch shaft suits a taller transom than a 15-inch shaft would.
Specification
Gearcase ratio on this inline-3 is 1.92:1. Displacement comes in at 32.1 cubic inches, or 526 cc. The alternator is rated 15 amp (186 watt), and shallow water trim range runs to 16 degrees. Full throttle spins between 5000 and 6000 RPM.
Dry weight is listed at 157 lbs, Mercury's lightest in this category, with electric turn-key starting and a single overhead cam, two-valve EFI head.
Q: Does the remote console come with this motor? Controls are sold separately, so budget for them if you don't already have a compatible setup.
Q: Is this new? It is not; this unit is sold used.
Recommended oil is Mercury FourStroke 10W-30, with 90 RON unleaded minimum fuel.
Q: Does the longer shaft change the horsepower or displacement? No, those stay the same across this 25-horsepower family; only shaft length, steering, and trim type change.
