Details & Inspection Notes
On a 30-inch shaft, this used Mercury 250XXL FourStroke DTS carries the same V-8 block, 279 CID and 4.6 liters, out to a taller-transom configuration, with Mercury's digital throttle and shift hardware sold separately from the powerhead itself.
Why the 30-inch shaft here
This is a longer shaft than the 20-inch or 25-inch versions elsewhere in this family, so measure your transom carefully before assuming it is a drop-in swap for a shorter motor.
Specification
Scale weight comes to 527 lbs. Separately, the gearcase ratio is 1.75:1, and alternator output is 85 amps (1071 watts) with idle charge. Trim tops out at 20 degrees, with 73 degrees of tilt available. DTS controls are sold separately and need compatible Mercury helm hardware; absent that, hydraulic or power steering are the optional alternatives.
Trim, tilt, and condition
Full throttle RPM runs 5200-6000.
Q: Is this a new engine? No, it is sold used; verify its condition rather than assuming new-equipment cosmetics.
Q: What about a propeller? None ships with it; add one that suits your boat.
The gearcase measures 5.44 inches, with oil capacity rated at 7.0 quarts.
Since this is a used motor, ask about hours and service history rather than relying on the specification sheet by itself. Fitment on the transom still comes down to the 30-inch shaft, regardless of what the prior owner used it for.
