Details & Inspection Notes

Mercury's 250HP CXL FourStroke pairs a 25-inch shaft with remote mechanical steering, the cable-and-cam style of control rather than digital throttle and shift.

What's packed with it, and what isn't

Standard equipment includes the owner's manual, mounting hardware, and a tool kit. A propeller is sold separately and should be matched to your boat. Once the motor is mounted you'll know your target gearing and can order the right wheel.

Rigging and specification

Remote mechanical steering runs on conventional cables rather than Mercury's electronic DTS system, which some helms are already wired for and others are not, so check your existing setup before ordering a replacement or a first install. Counter rotation is available if you are building a twin-engine pair. The block displaces 4.6. It reaches full throttle between 5200 and 6000 RPM. It weighs 527 lbs dry.

Q: Will this bolt onto a boat already rigged for DTS? Not directly; remote mechanical and digital shift use different helm hardware.

Power trim and tilt and EFI come standard. This new motor carries a 3-year warranty from Mercury Marine. If you are unsure which shaft length or control type your boat needs, measure twice before ordering. A wrong guess here is costlier to fix than a wrong color. A rigger who has installed this exact configuration before is a useful resource if your boat is older or custom-built. A tape measure settles shaft-length questions faster than any spec sheet ever will.
