Details & Inspection Notes
This used Mercury 225XL FourStroke Cold Fusion DTS runs the 225 hp V6 on a 25 inch shaft, Digital Throttle and Shift controls, and a Cold Fusion White finish.
Powerhead
It is a 3.4 liter, 209 cubic inch V6 at 64 degrees, with dual overhead camshafts opening 24 valves; bore and stroke measure 3.6 and 3.4 inches. Trim range covers 20 degrees with a 73 degree tilt range under power trim and tilt.
Before ordering
DTS controls are sold separately, so a digital-ready console is expected; electric start runs through SmartStart Protection. Optional steering upgrades cover hydraulic assist, power steering, and joystick piloting. This one is rated at 475 lbs dry out of the box. Choosing between this Cold Fusion finish and the plain XL DTS version is purely a cosmetic decision, since the rigging underneath matches. Propeller is not included.
Shoppers cross-shopping the XL against the CXL at this shaft length are looking at the same underlying engine; the model code mostly tracks trim-level naming rather than a different drivetrain, so pick based on price and availability rather than expecting a performance gap. Whichever one you choose, confirm the seller's listed control type matches what your boat already carries before paying a deposit, since swapping from mechanical to digital later means buying an entirely separate control head and wiring harness.
What finish is this motor? Cold Fusion White.
