Details & Inspection Notes

The 20HP 20EH EFI FourStroke is a new two-cylinder outboard on a 15 inch, short shaft with tiller steering and an electric starter, weighing 111 lbs and spinning up to a 5400 to 6100 rpm full-throttle range. It comes with a 9.2 inch diameter, 9.8 inch pitch three-blade aluminum propeller.

Tiller control, short shaft

Tiller steering means you operate this motor by hand at the transom, which suits smaller boats, jon boats, and dinghies better than a console-steered setup. Check your own transom height before ordering instead of assuming any single shaft length fits. Give this motor a break-in period before loading it hard: work up to higher rpm gradually across the first few hours on the water instead of opening the throttle fully right away. The owner's manual included with it spells out the exact schedule to follow.

What ships with it

Mercury throws in the propeller noted above, plus a printed manual, a small tool kit, and fuel-system basics: a 3.2 gallon tank and the line to connect it.

A short shaft like this one suits a lower transom than the long-shaft version sold in this same family; measure before ordering rather than guessing between the two.

Electric or manual start? Electric, with its own dedicated starter motor.

What's the warranty? Mercury Marine's 3-year warranty, standard on this new outboard, applies here too.
