Details & Inspection Notes
This used 20ELHPT FourStroke combines a 20 inch shaft and tiller steering with power tilt, rather than the manually adjusted trim on some siblings of this same 20 hp two-cylinder engine.
Power tilt, tiller steering
Power tilt raises and lowers the motor at the touch of a button instead of by hand, useful in shallow water or when trailering, while tiller steering keeps the operator at the transom.
Running it
Mercury wires in protection against low oil pressure, over-revving, overheating, and sensor failure on this engine. This engine wants 87 octane as a baseline, tolerates up to 10 percent ethanol, and runs Mercury's 25W-40 synthetic blend oil, with 3.2 gallons of standard tank capacity.
As a used unit, ask about its logged hours and service paperwork before ordering. A propeller is included, so that piece of the rigging does not need separate sourcing.
Power tilt draws a small amount of current from the battery each time it is used, something to factor in alongside whatever else is wired into a small boat's electrical system. A tiller handle this long also benefits from a quick test swing at the dealer before you commit to buying, just to be sure of the clearance.
Does this one ship with a propeller? Yes, it is included.
