Details & Inspection Notes

This used 20ELH FourStroke pairs a 20 inch shaft with tiller steering, longer than the short-shaft tiller version of this same 20 hp two-cylinder engine but still worked by hand at the transom. Trim here is manual.

Why the longer shaft

A 20 inch shaft suits a taller transom than the shorter tiller version sold alongside it, so measure your boat before choosing between the two lengths this engine comes in.

Running it

The motor's own protection system flags low oil pressure, excess rpm, overheating, or a failed sensor. An 87 octane floor applies here, ethanol up to 10 percent tolerated, with Mercury's 25W-40 synthetic blend oil recommended and a 3.2 gallon tank fitted as standard.

Being sold used, confirm its hours and maintenance background before you buy instead of guessing condition from the shaft length alone. A propeller ships with the motor.

A longer tiller handle like this one changes the swing radius at the transom somewhat compared to a shorter version, worth a thought if your boat's stern is tight on space. Checking swing clearance against any nearby fuel tanks, seats, or gear before buying avoids a surprise once it is mounted, especially on a smaller hull.

Propeller included? Yes, one comes with this unit.
